  1. Probably one of the most common is the letter “Z”. In Canada, it is pronounced ZED and in the US, it is pronounced ZEE. I was actually yelled at by a telephone operator in the US that it was ZEE and I informed her that no, as a Canadian, it was pronounced ZED. I was probably twice her age and it was probably in the late 70’s or 80’s. I should have complained to her Supervisor LOL. Can you imagine the group ZZ Top being called, ZED ZED Top – it does not sound right! I guess the other classic would be La-Z-Boy (furniture vs La-ZED-Boy would really sound odd. The English language can be a lot of fun – years ago, I had a few books on accents and language – totally fascinating! I will hold on strongly to my ZED and my “u” in coloUr, etc. Have a great day!
